Green Products, Green Lifestyle - Really?

I've got several competing thoughts going through my head - always a dangerous combination - but hopefully they tie together.

Yesterday I attended a very uplifting, grassroots Tea Party in Medina, OH where there was a lot of passion for changing the direction our government seems to be taking us. Signs like "It's the Spending Stupid" and "Free Markets Not FreeLoaders" and many more were boldly displayed.

Stay with me here. This morning my wife showed me a front page story in our local paper about "Living Green - A Way of Life", and a big Earthday event going on this weekend. It focused on the organizer, a mother with a very asthmatic child who literally got rid of all the things in her house that could contribute to her sons attacks. Out went the carpeting, all the chemical laden cleaning products, foods that weren't organic, and guess what - it worked.

Well, all this input sent me back to an earlier blog I wrote about Need vs. Want and got me thinking that we all say we need certain things. We need to lose weight. We need to get the government to stop spending our money and lower taxes. We need to use safer "green" products for our own health and well being as well as to benefit the environment.

We all know what we need, but too often our "wants" take over because we don't "want" to get out of our routine or our "box" and make the changes necessary, even though we'll surely benefit from them.

We keep electing the same reps who spend our money like drunken sailors (as a former sailor I can say that). We keep eating the same refined crap that puts excess weight or our bones and damages our bodies. We keep using products that contain harmful chemicals and toxin, that risk our health and the health of our families. Until something radical happens. The child gets sick or you're diagnosed with type II diabetes or you get laid-off or you can't pay your mortgage payment.

My suggestion: change your Need To Attitude to a Want To Attitude and take ACTION to make positive changes in your life now instead of when you're forced to and you'll live a healthier, happier life.

I know this sounds like a sermon, but I did get a lot of inspiration yesterday being with 800 or so people who were ready to take action and focus on what needs to happen so that their wants can be realized.

For the self serving part (and for serving you) I can help you at least take action on your physical wellness by partnering with the company I work with and getting the harmful chemicals and toxins our of you, your home and your lifestyle. Let's stop the talking and start the positive actions to make our lives better.
